We had a very nice turnout and the warm temperatures and sunny skies didn’t disappoint.

Once we left the second rest stop we started to feel the effects of the high winds. It was very windy and the saving grace was the pleasant temperatures and the sunny skies.

As we were leaving lunch, Brian Reyes (who drove from Fremont) rolled up.  He’d taken lunch at the second test stop and he wasn’t going to be denied his January century. He’d committed to ride the remaining 65 miles solo.  We were amazed that he braved that windy grinding stretch by himself.  The 7 of us weren’t having much fun on that stretch.  At some points we were down to 12 mph.  When I got to the stop I took off a layer and all of my clothing was wet from all of the hard work.  You could see that Mother Nature was winning because we were all very quiet on that stretch.  You could hear riders cursing the road and the wind and possibly the person who put the route together.  After the lunch break we had to stop for a mechanical.  Jeff Kompa went back to tell Bryan and he was able to join is on the return.
