This gravel road was in another location road, from another ride, last year, and in the opposite direction.

Saturday

The start was very pleasant. Once we got out into the open roads we started to realize how windy it was.  By the time we got the 2nd rest stop, I remember saying, “How are we going to get to west Salem?”  I knew we would make it but it seemed kind of challenging.  Anyway, we made it to lunch.  At the lunch there was some discussion about a gravel road section that we would have to pass through.  Although some of the riders had gone through that section the week before, for some reason, they wanted to do it again.  To my surprise, the road wasn’t exactly flat.  It was rolling downhill and at times I was coasting at 28 mph!  The 3 riders who had experience with cyclocross road out of sight of us.  Afterwards, I was thinking that I’m glad that I went through it but I’m not doing it again… (at least for a month or so).
